    The priests. In order to save themselves the priests got large walls built around the monasteries and the remains of them are called "forts" now. There is a fort in Mrs. Shuls's land of Drumhowna. There is also another fort in Mr. Kilroy's land of Dillagh which is called "Dillagh Fort." All forts are circular in shape and there are fences round the, The Danes are supposed to have built them. It is supposed that a man was seen riding on horseback from Mrs. Sheils;s fort to Lough Elim at twelve o'clock one night. (Loughs) Long ago the people would not interfere with or labour the forts but Mr. John Smith has a fort laboured at present. There is a story told about the fort that is in Mr. Tommy Smith's field. One night when Mr. Charles Reilly and Pat Reilly were going on a ceilide they saw light in the fort. They came on within view of it and they saw a great fire and a great number of people dancing round it. Suddenly they saw a very tall man coming up towards them and asked them what was the fire in the field. He then said "Come up" and see what it is." He said the same again and again until he was tired asking them up. They paid no heed to him and he immediately leaped across the ditch and made haste to the fire. The two men never saw that man before and it was said it was one of the fairs.
