- Local marriages are celebrated in the month of June. It is said that May is a very unlucky month. Marriages are also celebrated before Lent.
When a boy or girl in the district is ready to marry the elder people come together and select a partner for the boy or girl this is called "match-making". If the husband is wealthy the bride must have a fortune of either money or stock for the land. This is called her "Dowry".
The young pair go to the church on the morning of the wedding where they are married by the Parish Priest. The bride and bridesmaid generally dress in blue with a white veil as it is said that blue is a very lucky colour.
Long ago guests were invited. They rode on horseback with the bride and groom and they raced each other to see who should get home first. In the afternoon the guests went in a procession of sidecars to the local town, they brought a "fiddler`' with them and he played Irish airs.- Bailitheoir
