- Fortland, a beautiful demense bordering for many miles on Lake Sheelin was at one time the seat of a very wealthy man named Sir John Con More O'Reilly. This man was a catholic and during his day in Fortland there was a Catholic Church on his land which served the Catholics of the Parish of Ballymachugh in those days. This church was situated on the main road from Ballyjamesduff to Granard and there is now a slab with inscriptions in Lattin to show the place where the chapel once stood.
