   1. It is considered lucky to have three candles burning at night at the bedside of the corpse.

   2. It is lucky for one or two persons to remain up during the night or nights of the Wake until daylight the following morning, so as to guard the dead body.
   (The above customs still survive to a great extent in the locality)

   3. Some families, on the death of a member still adhere to the custom of giving pipes, tobacco, and strong drink (preferably stout or whiskey) to those who attend the Wake.
   This custom, however, is rapidly dying out.
