“At Hallow'een the children have a royal time...”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)turns endeavour to catch an apple in their mouths which if they get it, they eat it - nobody may touch the apple with his hands.
A particularly large and rosy apple is suspended by a cord from the ceiling. Everyone tries to catch it in his mouth and the winner get it. Sometimes he only gets a bite and the game id continued until the apple is eaten off the string.
Two nuts are placed on the hearth and each nut is given the name of a boy or a girl (in the company). If they towards one another it is said the boy and girl will get married but if they hop apart they will never be married to each other.
Large barm bracks are eaten for supper containing rings, thimbles, buttons,money etc. It is said that the person who gets the ring will be married before Hallow eve comes around again. The boy or girl who finds the thimble will marry a dressmaker or a tailor and the man who gets the button will remain a bachelor forever.
