    once stood a school. The extent of the school-master's knowledge is clearly depicted in a little story that is told about him. When asked by one of his pupils where a certain town was situated he answered:
    "Oh. Its someplace in England we will never see."
    Two books were all the pupils used in those days - a "Reading - made - easy" and a "Universal". The uses of the first book is evident and the "Universal" comprised Geography, History and Grammar books.
    In the haggard of Mr Nicholas O'Connell, Lislea it is said a school once stood and aged residents of Cloughergoole - the adjoining townland - testify to having crossed the intervening bog to attend it. A laneway has been built there recently.
