Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)such as Great Scots, May Queens, Arran Chiefs, Arran Banners, Champions & Kerr Pinks. The three latter are the most common species used around this district.
- At the approach of Spring about two hundred years ago the people of this locality were mystified by the deaths of many young girls from a mysterious malady which even very learned doctors could not diagnose.
One day a leprecaun appeared and said:-
"If thou wouldst eat nettles in March and muggins in May less brae maidens would die away"
These words are now used as a proverb in this neighbourhood.
