- (continued from previous page)be kept wed during that period. Then they are dug in Autumn. There is a special machine called a digger for digging the potatoes. The stalks (are pulled) have to be let wither before they are dug by the potato digger. Two men are employed to keep in front of the digger pulling the stalks. Two or three follow it to gather the potatoes. They gather of the big ones and put them in a hole for themselves. Then they go back and gather the small ones. The small potatoes are kept for the cows and hens and the pigs to eat during the Winter.
