- "Boxty" was amde by the women on Hallow-eve night. Culcannon is also eaten on Hallow-eve. A plate of it is left outside for the fairies. When the basket for eating the potatoes out off was not in use it was hung on a nail outside the kitchen door.

- Sometimes when the people were scarce of milk they used to put oaten meal in a crock and put (in a) water in it and when it was sour they used to drink the foam off the top of it. This was called sowens. People used to sit round a basket in the middle of the floor. This basket was full of potatoes and in the middle of the basket there was a plate with bacon(continues on next page)
