- In this district St. Stephens Day is celebrated, by men and boys going round with the wren. They gather together and disguise themselves with ragged clothes. Then they go round from house to house singing and dancing and one of them playing a fiddle. They sing the Wren-song at every door and when they have it finished they get money from the people of the house. This is the song they sing.
The wren, the wren, the king of all birds.
On St. Stephens Day he was caught in the furze.
All-though he was small his family was great.
Rise up gentlemen and give us a treat.
Up with the kettle and down with the pan.
Two-pence or three to bury the wren.
