- Long ago the bread used in our country was very different from what we have now. Bread made from oat-meal, ground from home grown oats was the very oldest. The people long ago had very good teeth from eating this bread, as it was hard with long baking in front of the fire.
When Sir Walter Ralleigh brought potatoes to Ireland, potato bread and boxty were then made. Potato bread was made from boiled potatoes and baked on a griddle. Boxty was made from grated raw potatoes and baked in a pot oven.- Bailitheoir
