- Some people say that when the swallows fly low it is a sign of rain. When you hear the curlews whistling at night you may be sure that it is going to rain and when you hear the wood pigeon people say that it will rain. When the wind blows from the south it is also a sign of rain.
When the wind blows from the north we are always sure it is going to snow. The wind from the east always brings cold dry weather. Sometimes in the evenings when there are showers you can see the rainbow in the sky and we are told that this is a sign that the next day will be fine.
The people also can tell the weather by the moon. If a new moon comes in stormy it is going to be stormy for the first quarter of the moon. When the sun goes down in a red ball that is a sure sign that there is going to be frost.
