- In the Penal times there were no chapel's and the priests had to say Mass in cave's and on the mountain side and on the rocks and silent places. There were sentinels left guarding the place where the priests were saying Mass. The priests in those days had to go about disguised as peddlers and dressed as peasants.
On one ocasion a priests was saying mass in a quit part of the country down near Maridabawn on a rock in Patrick Mc Gorry's field. He was saying mass there for a long time and was not found although the enemy knew he was saying mass in the district. There was a reward offered for anyone who would give information about him. There was a traitor amongst them and he told them to cover the light with a rifle and when the candle would be darkened the priest would be passing and to fire and they killed the priest.- Bailitheoir
