PeadarO' Maolagain. Fear oibre.(I heard this story told by Mrs Plunket, Bunlahy who died in 1897. Ar Deis De go raibh a h-anam C.6.) There was a king and queen in Ireland long ago and they had twelve sons.
One snowy morning the queen looked out on the window and saw a raven lying dead on the snow; she thought she had never seen such lovely colours together as the white of the snow, the red blood, and the black wing of the raven and she said out loud "Well, if I had a daughter with skin as white as the snow, with cheeks as red as the blood, and hair as black as the raven's wing I'd give my twelve sons for her.
