- The Restoration of the CowA poor man named Seamus Gill lived in olden days near Castleplunkett. He owned one very good grey cow. One summer's morning he found his cow lying dead in the field. He sent for a neighbour and when the neighbour had sympathised with him the two men began to skin the cow. They were not well started when a strange (woman) woman came along and asked what they were doing. They explained that they were skinning the dead cow. That is not a cow she said "that is a dog and leave it there". She advised them to go down to the Moinin - a piece of boggy land near and that they would get a surprise. Seamus and the other man went down to the Moinin at the end of the land and there they found the real cow in a hole and struggling to get out. They got more men to help and in a short time they released the cow.When they returned, the woman was still there and remarked that if the first skinning were finished the real cow would be lost.
