- There lived an old man at one time by the name of Michael Howley. He had a little thatched house not far from the village of Ruan. Michael's cousin was dead one night, so he started off to the wake at ten o clock, on his old grey mare On his journey he had to pass the priest house. Just as he was passing it, the horse took fright at something on the wall.
Michael began to hit the horse with his stick but he would not stir a peg. It was not long until the image appeared in front of the horse and it commanded the man to dismount. The man came down and as as he left his legs on the ground, the horse ran off. The person told the man that the horse would stop at a place called "Crann na gaoithe and to go to the foot of the tree and he would get a pot of gold. He also told him that he would find his horse in the stable where he used to be every night. The image told him not to tell anyone where the gold was hidden because they would get it before him.
