importance is regarded as a sign
of ill luck.
5. If a person comes into a house
while a churning is going on and
doesn't take a brais, that is,
lending a helping hand for a few
minutes, he is suspected of
having evil intentions. It was
believed that certain evil minded
people had power to prevent
butter coming on milk.
6. People believed that whoever got
the first can of water out of a
Spring well in the morning had
good luck as a result.
Consequently, fights at spring
wells in the early morning were
a common occurrence. Belief was
that whoever drew water first in
the morning had best yield of
