   in the day time and the ducks lay their eggs at night.
   When eggs are being set they are marked lest some other hen might go into the box in which the hen is set and lay it's egg. When the eggs are set for three weeks the young birds come out. The eggs are set under a broody hen. When the eggs are set for a week they are tested. This is done by putting the egg between the person who is testing the eggs and the light. If the egg is black and is sunk there is a bird in it. Geese turkeys and ducks sit for a month on the eggs before the young birds come out. When these young birds come out there is no feathers on them. There is nothing on them accept down and they are very weak. When young chickens come out they are fed with oatmeal wetted with sweet milk. When young turkeys come out they are fed with very hard boiled eggs but when they are about two weeks old they are fed with oatmeal boiled in sweet milk and shives or nettles cut into it and stirred through it. When young geese come out they are called goslings. When chickens are about two or three months or so their call is "birdy". When young turkeys come out their call is "pee-pee". Every egg the turkey lays there is a number put on it. One is put on the first egg it lays and so on until it lays the last egg. When young goslings come out they are much stronger than any other bird when it comes out. It is said one dozen geese could eat as much grass as six cows.
