As Paddy was walking he met with the rector.

    (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)
As Paddy was walking he met with the rector
He being in this carriage he seemed very blithe
"Where are you going?" says the rector to Paddy
"I'm going to you honour to pay you the tithe
The rector he stood a short while & he smiled.
Says he to poor Paddy, "You thought you'd be free
But when you go home you can sing & carouse
'Bout your "Old Constitution", "unite" & 'Go Free' "
Pat put his hand in his pocket to give him the money
Says he to himself, I'm a hell of a rogue
To give a man money can drive in such splendour
Especially when I look down at my brog."
With the hard frost his Lips were a nipping
His shirt like a "hippen" hung over his knee
The threw back his hair with a very good air
And Sing, "Erin go bragh" like a bird on a tree.
Down to Liscarry the next day he burried
To get a big pike with a hatchet & cleek
The times were so bad it was his resolution
To reach Wicklow mountains that evening week
Where there's no tithe, no procter no rector
Nor the devil a scraw ___ to be seen
Where liberty ranges we feel there's no danger
Where there's caps red and yellow and jackets of green.
