- This district was connected with Irish History. Cromwell passed through parts of this district and caused great destruction in it.
It is said that a giant stood on on Lough-in-Lea mountain and it is said he saw Finn Mac Cumhail standing on a high hill named Seefin. He said hes [?] "I see Finn". He fired a great stone at Finn and it lit on the hill on which Finn was standing. The stone is there yet with the track of the giants fingers on it. The mountain is about nine miles away from where the stone was fired. The stone was broken recently. The Penal days are remembered in this district by a mass rock in Monaghanoose, Bailieboro. In the the last century the people used to recite the rosary at it!(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
