    9. The blacksmiths are looked upon as being very strong. The forges were centres for storytelling and news. Most of the country people spent their Winter nights in the forges to hear the news of the day or any old ghost story or legend connected with the parish.
    Pikes were made for several Insurrections and rebellions by Irish blacksmiths. One of the smiths was Paid O' Donohoe. The yeomen took him prisoner and bound him in chains and brought him before their captain, who ordered them to unbind him and have him shoe their horses.
