  1. Marriages in olden times often where a nice girl would be in a house, she would be stolen away to marry some man often into another country. Her father when she would be missed would gather his faction and ride of to rescue her. In some cases they would get her back, often times the marriage would have taken place before they got there and often the girl would be held until ransom money was paid for her release. Where a girl would have a fortune her father would look out for a suitable partner that would have lands and means to suit the money and a marriage would be arranged.
