- On a Summer's evening the air was cheering,
The lambs were bleating and the fields were green,
Some bells were tolling, o'er the Shannon rolling,
And I was strolling round Sweet Parteen! What a pleasing duty, without gratuity,
If I were able to describe the scene,
In the beauteous landscape that Sarsfield trod on,
With his gallant army and their jackets green.I would praise the people upright and decent,
And give a special praise to each bright Colleen;
The bells were tolling, and the Shannon rolling,
and the lambs were bleeding in the fields so green.I would praise the churches, hotels and school house,
And the grand old spot by the Shannon streams;
Where you dear relations for ever lie sleeping
In the silent grave-yard of Sweet Parteen.I would praise the meadows well fledged with fodder,
The spacious gardens well tilled and clean;
The trade and labour, and every neighbor
That brought such blessing in Sweet Parteen.(continues on next page)- Informant
