    and when he was in the convalescent state his doctor advised him to walk and run as often as he could in order to strengthen the sinews. He practised running on Saturdays and Sundays and during all his leisure hours. When he was twenty-one years of age he was a champion long distance runner.
    After the death of Tim's parents he went to live in O'Callaghans Mills with his uncle. Here he began to run the long races in the local sports and he carried off the most coveted prizes. Shortly he became the Champion long distance runner of Clare and later of Munster and finally of Ireland. He competed also in inter-national events winning two. He won the ten mile championship of the world and also the four mile championship
