and Shaun kept sprinkling the holy water around in a circle and on the other men but none on himself. They began to dig with all their might ,without any interruption until they struck a stone. Then,as it were ,the clouds and heavens were rent asunder.Such terrific noises were never heard of.The sound of horses galloping ,swords cracking, thunder rolling and other dreadful noises came from the direction of Fairyhill.
The men got terrified and forgetting the priest's warning fled outside the circle and separated. The "Good people" had them then. Two of the men got home ,however they got there Shaun Fleming was found dead near Molony's fort next morning.had they remained inside the circle and kept sprinkling the holy water as the priest had told them, nothing would have happened and they would have got the pot of gold.
Next day people went to look at the haunted place and saw the shape of an oven that the "Good People"had carried away their hidden treasure in, to hide in some other place.
About thirty five years ago ,Matt Ward of Kilclaran dreamed there was a mine in his field at the bottom of the mountain. He and Willie Molony dug for six months. They dug down forty feet. They found the mine alright and sent part of it away to be analysed .It was found to be copper ore and it would not pay to wash it.
