   Forts of Feakle Parish.
   There is a fort on top of a hill in Broadford and the following story is told about it.
   At one time there lived near the hill a widow who had three sons.All he possessed was two cows.One morning when he awoke he saw the best of his cows dead in a field ajoining the house.He immediately went out ,skinned the cow cut her and put her into a barrel.The meat he ate for every meal.On another morning when he awoke he saw the same cow which he had killed looking in the window at him.Out he went to the cow and catching her by the tail,he followed her until they reached a gap in a fort on the hill.This gap the cow passed through and disappeared.Some time later the cow again appeared at his window.The man followed her as before but when they reached the hill it opened on top and the cow fell down together with its owner who was holding it by the tail.When they reached land again the widower widower saw all the people for miles around both living and dead, milking cows,separating milk ,and churning it.Among these was a girl who had been dead for two months .The girl told the man to keep a hold of the cow and he would own her at once.
   Just then a gentleman appeared who told the owner of the cow ,that if he would give back the man he had killed ,he would let him home with his cow.
