There was a shop at the Mine which was owned by Mrs O Loughlin She lived alone and everyone used to be tormenting her because she was very old
She sold flour and meal and tea and sugar and tobacco and alot of other things She also sold whiskey She used charge four pence a glass for it
The people usually bought their goods on a Sunday or in the nights when they used go in playing cards
Some used pay monthly and others used leave in butter and eggs and get the value of them in tea and sugar
She had a tally rod and when anyone used get tea or sugar without paying for it she used to put a mark on the rod Each cut was for something different She used count all the marks every month and send word to the people to come in and pay her
