There was a man one time living on very poor land.

    (continued from previous page)
    282.
he found the house occupied by an old man and his daughter who was really his wife .After resting for a time he remembered the farmer's second advice ,left the house and squeezed himself into a hole in a rick of hay (left there to let the air into the hay to keep it from heating).Presently a stranger came up,stood by the rick for a short time, until the young woman came out.He asked her if there was anyone inside ,she replied "two travellers" whereupon he told her to order them out.Meanwhile the man in the rick cut a piece of his coat with his penknife.
As morning dawned ,the traveller started on his road homewards .On his arrival he found his son sleeping with his mother who was lonely. Not recognising his son he was about to stab him with his penknife when he thought of the farmer's third advice.Great was his joy on discovering the true state of affairs that he had followed the third advice. After some time the old man in whose house he refused to stay was murdered and £100 offered as reward for anyone who could prove the murderer's guilt.he went to court and produced the part of the coat he had cut up and received the reward of £100.
