- Long ago marriages customs were practiced differently than those of to-day.
For instance” marriages used to take place I the evening.
Some of those are not practiced now. About sixty or seventy years ago there was no wall around the Church, and the bell was not in the place where it is now, it was in a stand in the Church yard.
Some time befor the marriage takes place a person would go the the church and ring the bell.
Then the people around would go to the Church.
When they came out of the Church they would be pelted with “straws”. Each person used wear a tall hat and the pelters used try and knock off the hats.
The married pair would have to run into the carriage as they used have in those times, and be pelted into with “straws”(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
