    She would then hold loose end of the thread + new roll below her finger + thumb + repeat operation. She would then slip thread off spindle on to a rod of same diameter as spindle. When she had several "rods" filled she would wind them into balls. The thread was then ready to be sent to the weaver.
    There was no weaver in Meelick proper within living memory, but there was one in near parish (Cratloe) in (Patsy O'Shea) Gallow's Hill (a couple of miles away). HIs son, Denis O'Shea, is probably able to weave but does not practise. The weaver turned out flannel + frieze. At Knockroe (near where Jim McMahon now lives) there were 12 weavers at one time - 11 were named Frost + the 12th was called Cherry.
