- Long ago people used black bread. This bread was made from Irish flour. The grain from which the flour was made was ground in a mill by grinding stones. The people had various sorts of cakes namely Potato cake, Boxty cake, and Oatmeal cake. A potato cake consisted of a few boiled potatoes and flour. The potatoes were sliced and mixed with the flour. Then the milk was poured in. The dough was mixed then and baked in a pan. A boxty cake consisted of raw potatoes scraped with a scraper and mixed with flour.
