- About two thousand five hundred years ago, a famous Greek scholar found seashells on a hilltop in Sicily and he wondered how they had come to be there. Shellfish he knew are found only at the seaside or in the river beds. the scholar thought hard and said. This hill top must be under the sea once. He was right. Men of science have proved that land where he found sea shells was covered by the ocean once.
