    and piers and put up gates. Gubb's bog about twenty five years ago was divided amongst all who were in Madden's estate and who were scarce of bog and who put in an application. Madden was a very exact landlord and often very cruel. There was a man of the name of Kilkenny. He lived in the townland of Tooma in the parish of Aughavas Co. Leitrim. He was not able to pay his rent and he put him and his family out of the house and knocked it. Then they built up an old tent in the field where the house was knocked. They lived there in the day-time. A neighbouring man gave them a barn to sleep in at night.
    4. Landlord Kiernan.
    Our landlord's name was Atorney Kiernan. He was landlord over Mellican, Drumnamore and Greagh. He was elected landlord by Lady Hubert. He was a clerk of the crown. He lived in Dublin. Every year he would send some of his people to collect the rents. He collected the rents twice every year in May and November. He had days appointed for collecting it. He collected it in Ballinamore and Mohill. He was very well liked by some of the people. He would pay them for making ditches and shores through their lands. He also gave them tooles for the purpose namely
