On candlemas day when the blessed candle comes home, the woman of the house has two bits of red tape. The blessed candle and the two pieces of tape are taken out to the cow house, the candle is lit and the two pieces are tied concealed in the cow's tail and the sign of the cross is made on each piece in the name of the Trinity and a bit of the blessed candle grease is dropped on them. This is to proetect the cows from sickness throughout the year.
