Marriages take place most frequently in this district at Shrove. The month of May is considered unlucky for marriages and also one day of the week is Friday. There is an old poem that (says) says,
Monday for health,
Tuesday for wealth,
Wednesday the best day of all,
Thursday for losses,
Friday for crosses
And Saturday no luck at all.
It was an old custom at Shrove time that all unmarried men and women were taken out of their homes on Shrove Tuesday night and taken to Skellig or put(continues on next page)- Collector
