- Old history says that this lake is an enchanted one. My father can tell about this lake in his young school days. His grandfather was a herdsman on the hill and on a September evening about half-past-four o'clock, as he sat down to rest at the top of Coumshinawn cliff, he heard some rumbling noise in the lake. It was terrifying and to his surprise, he saw a white animal, in appearance like a horse, came to the surface of the lake three times and swim round the lake and disappear. As soon as she disappeared the rumbling noise ceased. According to tradition this animal comes to the surface of the lake every seven years.
Coumshinaun cliff is very dangerous as it tapers out night over the lake. Anglers go to that lake - my father went there on a few occasions to fish and the ugliest trout in all Ireland are found there.- Faisnéiseoir
