- HuntingIt is the custom to sprinkle a sup of holy - water on every field in your land on holy Thursday. It helps the crops to grow. On St Stephen's day each man takes his horn and goes out to hunt with dogs which are called "beagles". This is how hunting is done. A few men gather together and blow their horns and then a crowd of others come and bring their dogs also. The hunt begins. These dogs are about sixty pounds weight. Some of them are of a brown and white colour. They have short hair which keeps them from sweating and they can run much faster. The beagles are made for strength, more than for speed. They hunt in packs by scent. They loose the scent on water and on the road. It is taking an unfair advantage of a hare to shoot as it was never intended to be shot.
