  1. Long ago in the Penal days there was a law that obliged priests to saw mass out at a rock. There is a place near Aughower where mass was said near a rock and that place is near a house now owned by Simmons'. There is a rock in the middle of the field and priests used to say mass there. In the middle of the field was the large rock standing alone and pointing to the sky. Every person that passes it kneels down and says some prayers and makes the sign of the cross over the rock and that rock was called in the penal days it was called in Irish "Carraig an Aifrinn."
