  1. Once upon a time there lived a man in Ballinrobe named Jim Burke and he was a married man. His wife used to be always saying what misfortune was on Eve and Adam in eating the "forbidden fruit". And what misfortune that sin brought on the world also.
    So this day Jim said to himself that he would try his wife's obedience. But how could he do so? He thought for a while and then he hit upon a plan. He caught a mouse and let him under a basin on a table in the kitchen unknown to his wife.
    He waited until his wife came in and he said to her:- "Not for the peril of your life do not stir that basin." Then he went out to his work.
    As soon as she got him gone she lifted the basin and out ran the mouse but it was as gone
