he took the lid of the barrel the cat jumped out and began to spit at him and he followed him a mile and a half through the bogs. He passed his own house but he did not know it and he fell three times before he reached any house. He was there a night and a day and his neighbours went out to look for him. He went home with his neighbours and after a few days all his cattle began to die. When they were all dead but one cow his neighbours told him to go to the fair and sell the cow and not to let her die. He went to the fair but he did not sell the cow and coming home of him the cow fell dead at Aughadeffin Bridge. A light is to be seen every night where the treasure is hidden. It is said that it was the Danes that hid the treasure.
