Potatoes multiply from one another. Parts of the potato are cut off each portion containing an eye or two. These parts are called slits or sets. They are then placed in holes which are made on the ridges and "quenched" so that the wild birds will not bring them with them. Afterwards they are covered, moulded and re-moulded.
The potato stalks are sprayed three times on different occasions in order to keep away the blight which sometimes destroys the potato crop.
Towards the middle of July the potatoes are ripe for digging.
