- The farm animals are the cow calves, horse, ass, pig, sheep, goat, pony, mule, janet, dog, cat.
Some of the cows are named daisy, primrose, blue-bell, prendergast, and blue-bunty, bawny, Brindley, Bess, Dot, Polly. Some men call the calves by the name of the man they buy them from for instance Mrs Foster. Newtownwhite at present has four cows named respectively massy, Timlin, Hegarty, Murphy all named from the men who sold to him.
Calls for each animal :-
Cow :- Puigire, Puighie {dursh[?] is said while milking - if they are kicking
Horse :- Psak, Psak {wjpa : bike}
Sheep :- Shauie, Shauie.
Pig :- Hoorish, Hoorish
dog :- they whistle to call a dog or use his name.
cat :- psish-wish
The fowls on the farm are geese, ducks, turkeys, hens, guinea-hens, bantams(continues on next page)
