    people were rescued.
There were two passengers on board from our school area. One of them perished and the other one was saved by a sailor. She is now a nun in Chicago. We are told that the band on the ship played the hymn "Nearer my God to thee," when the ship was sinking.
There were many sad homes in Ireland when the disastrous newse arrived. The memory of the accident is still held in our parish and often when we sing "Nearer my God to thee" the master refers to the accident.
