    Then everyone in the family came with a plate to the dish and took some of the oaten meal for their supper.
    The bread eaten at that time was made from wheat and oats. First the wheat had to be crushed by a quern. Then the oats and wheat were mixed with sour milk and it was soon fit for the griddle. The remains of one of these querns is in our farm yet.
    Meat wasn't often eaten. Vegetables were the principle food.
    At Easter it was a custom that a number of eggs should be eaten. Before cups became common tin quarts were used.

  2. Bread in olden times was made from wheat and often it was made from oats and rye.
    The flour was made locally by querns. The flour was mixed with buttermilk and bread-soda and then put on a griddle to bake.
    Potato cakes were also made. This sort of cake was made by grating raw potatoes and a pound
