Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Most of the marriages were at Shrove long ago. The old people mostly got married on Sundays. When a person got advanced in years and if they left Shrove pass on without being married a cuigleac would be made for them. That would be a man or a woman dressed up and put on top of the chimney to leave everyone see it. The man was made of straw, with an old hat on him, a pipe in his mouth, by the way smoking tobacco. The woman was made of straw also, with a blouse and ragged skirt on her, and a bonnet on her hair tied with a string under her chin. She had a stream of tar mav-o-ah a tear of sorrow out of her eye.
    There were special people for match making. The person for that purpose used to travel about six counties of Ireland to see where the money was, and the man and woman were. If they met a girl in Wexford, they would say to themselves
