An Old Song - Carbally Hill
“There is a dear little spot I've loved since a child,”
(I)
There is a dear little spot I've loved since a child,
Though the old folks around it are few,
If you gaze on its waters as they ebb and flow,
The scenery is splended to view.
Just stand on the Head with its pillars so fine
They command a broad view of the bay
Where the seagulls do soar o'er the rock beaten surf
And their nests are secure at Banglay.
There's the Burrow and strand with its mountains of sand
It's most picturesque to behold
Likewise Sauleen tide as it onward do glide
That too a sad tale could unfold.
(II)
There's the metalman too with his finger outstretched
As a token for ships to beware
Where many a mariner was lured to his doom
For the breakers no mercy do share.
There's Carbally hill with its verdure so green
And in school days so much loved by all,
The school house close by where time quicky did fly
As we answered our names at roll call
The rooks in the wood some hundred did caw
What a crime it would be if you killed just one of their flock
You would be sent to quad by the Earl that ruled Summerville.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
