    place he could find shelter was in a little church at Clonmacnoise.
    He went into the church to spend the night there. Fearing that he would be turned out by the man who looked after the church he hid himself in the Confession box.
    After a time he fell asleep but was awakened by a voice which said "Is there anyone here who can [serve] mass"
    The poor man looked out and saw candles burning on the altar.
    The priest repeated the question three times, and getting no answer he put out the candles and disappeared.
    Next morning the poor man told the Parish Priest what he had seen and heard. With the result the Priest decided to spend the next night in the church. That night the same thing happened.
