- Sometimes people had far more butter on their milk than their neighbours had on theirs.
Those who had the more butter usually were said to have the power of "milking the dew".
A woman who had the power had a rope made of hair. On May morning when the dew was on the grass she went trailing the rope and saying "Come all to me". The person on whose land she travelled then lost the greater part of his butter. To keep the woman from exercising her power May flowers were spread before the Byre-door on May-eve and left there during the following day.
