St. Columcille was born in Gartan in 521.
In Gartan there are two beautiful lakes Upper Lough Gartan and Lower Lough Gartan.
One day when Saint Columcille was passing the Upper Lough he saw a man near the shore in a boat and he was fishing for salmon.
These loughs were full of salmon at the time.
When Saint Columcille saw the fisherman he asked for a salmon because he was hungry. The fisherman told Saint Columcille he had not caught any salmon.
The saint then said "You lie, but from today there will never be another caught in the lake."
    This saying proved true.
