Most of the money collected in America & other places for relief in this district was captured by, Young, Cochrane, Hayes & a few other landlords. They way they used it was they employed men at 9½d a day to make drains, and roads & build fences on their lands and would only take strong able-bodied men at that so the others had to starve. They also gave the people the idea that they had offered this money themselves and as none of them had any education they thought this was true. Many people lived on nettle broth.
